What type of clothing will work the best for my photography session?
We have helpful, specific guidelines depending on the syle of your session. We listen to what your preferences are and make suggestions accordingly.
Why do I need to pre-pay my session fee?
Your payment of the session fee reserves your time with the photographer and assistant at the location of your session. Once you have committed to the session, we are excited about planning the details as each session is different and requires a unique set up.
When do I see my images and place my order?
After your photography session we will schedule a time for you to come in and view your images. They will be presented on a plasma screen and your photographer will assist you in the selection process. Using this method allows us to show you specific crops and real life sizes. It is important to invite those involved to this appointment so they may make their selection also.
How long does it take to receive my order?
Most orders take about 3 weeks. This allows the photographer time to adequately retouch all your images and refine the finished product.
How much can I expect to spend?
Since we offer a wide selection of products and sizes it is often difficult to predict the final cost. Complete price lists are available at all of our studios, mall displays, and can be mailed to you at your request. We can also qoute specific prices over the phone by calling our studio at 631.689.3597.
Do you retouch my images, and can you make me look thinner and/or younger?
We retouch all of the images that you order. Our lighting, posing, and camera techniques are designed to make each subject look their best. Combining these techniques with digital retouching, we guarantee you will love how you look.
I am concerned my child will not cooperate and I won’t get any good images. What do you do in this case?
We specialize in children’s portraiture. We are patient and interested in your child’s needs. Each child is different and we spend time to get to know them before we bring them into the camera room. Many times the children are so caught up in playing and talking with the photographer that they don’t even realize they’re having their picture taken.
I am interested in your window light images. Is this something I need to schedule specifically?
Yes. We can only do natural window light in the morning. Window light portraits work best for one to three subjects.
How do you do the babies in flowers?
This is done by taking specifically posed pictures of your baby in the studio to combine with our library of floral images. Prior to your session we discuss this style with you and explain in detail how we will acheive your “flower baby” image.
Do you do Christmas cards?
Yes. We offer card styles for any Holiday or event. Most card orders take 3 weeks from the time you place your order. However, we have some styles that are available within one week.
Do you do birth announcements?
Yes. We have a beautiful selection of personalized photo cards. Ideally, the best time to schedule your newborn photo session is within the first couple weeks after birth. We realize this is a special time in you and your baby’s life and we ensure a clean, private session in any of our studios. We have changing tables and private rooms for nursing.
When is the best time to schedule my pregnancy photo session?
We suggest between your 6th and 8th month. At this stage during the pregnancy we are able to do a variety of poses. Studio fabrics are available and work well for these sessions. Although you and your pregnancy are our primary focus, your spouse and other children are encouraged to be a part of the session.
How far ahead do I need to call to schedule my session?
We schedule portrait sessions Tuesday through Saturday. If you need a Saturday appointment, we suggest that you call 3 to 4 weeks ahead of time. Availability varies from season to season. There are times we can schedule you immediately and other times where there may be a month wait.
When do you do outdoor sessions?
We typically do beach sessions from April through October scheduled about an hour before sunset. Garden sessions are available between June and September at various times throughout the day. For example, our Huntington studio garden has the best light in the morning whereas our gardens in Setauket work best in the late afternoon.
How many photographs do you take and how do I make my selections?
For portrait clients, we usually take about 50-100 images and edit this down to 20-40 which we present to you on a plasma screen. For wedding clients, we take between 800-1000 of which 350-500 are selected as your proofs which you keep.
Do you take black & white photographs?
Yes. We also offer prints in sepia as well as watercolor images, linen prints, and specialty items such as tiles, photo jewelry, wood mounted bevel prints, purses, and images embedded in crystal.
Will my photos fade?
All of our photos are archival in quality and have a protective coating which is designed to prevent fading. Each image is also mounted so they cannot wrinkle. With proper lighting and framing you can expect your portraits to last for many generations.
